Announcement on launching of the “E-commerce customs clearance portal”, an improved version of the existing Personal Customs Clearance Code website.

The new “E-Commerce customs clearance portal” will not only provide services related to the Personal Customs Clearance Code, but will also provide services related to individual customs clearance procedures. Furthermore, an “One time authentication number” services will be introduced to prevent theft of Personal Customs Clearance Codes and will ensure safe overseas direct purchases for the end-customers.

ㅇ Main services provided by the E-commerce customs clearance portal

- Personal customs clearance code management(Issuance, renewal, modification)

- Pre-registration for on-site visiting individuals of issuing the personal customs clearance code

- Details of one-time authentication number issuance

- Application for customs duty payment/refund

- Customs clearance information inquiry

- Other information inquiries

ㅇ Notification on applying the “One-time authentication number” system

- (Effective date) 28th August(Friday) 2026

- (Applied to) Newly obtained Personal Customs Clearance Code or for those information which has been changed on or after the effective date

- (Authentication method) On the overseas direct purchase shopping mall’s ordering screen, enter the recipient information(name, address, phone number, Personal Customs Clearance Code) and click “Authenticate” 

 → If the details match the Personal Customs Clearance Code issuing information, the Korea Customs Service will then issue a one-time authentication number to the recipient e-mail 

 → Enter the authentication number on the order screen, then complete payment and place the order for delivery.

- (Authentication method for accredited partner companies) When an individual has a history of verification procedures at the time of shopping mall registration or product purchasing stage; and such individual makes a purchase as the recipient themselves, then the order procedures will be the same as a domestic purchase procedures 

 → In this case, the Korea Customs Service provides the one-time personal customs code and one-time authentication number to the relevant shopping mall and will notify the Personal Customs Clearance Code owner of this fact via e-mail.

* Until the existing Personal Customs Clearance Code holders undergo changing their details or renewal(within one month before or after the individual birthday in year 2027) procedures after the 28th August 2026, then each individuals may continue to use their Personal Customs Clearance Code as before to make the required purchases, in which case the one-time authentication number will be provided directly to the relevant shopping mall. 

However, since this method cannot completely prevent ID theft, those who wish to quickly obtain an one-time authentication number are advised to update their information through the newly launched E-Commerce Customs Clearance Portal after the 28th August 2026. 

** If a shopping mall uses a verification agency in contract with the Korea Customs Service, then an one-time authentication number or proof of product purchase from an accredited partner company may be provided via text message (SMS), social networking services (SNS), etc.
